A little more info on Omen from Antestor

So if you didn't know already, Antestor has been posting teasers from their album on their facebook page and they just posted the last one. They also said the album doesn't have a release date yet but it will be available through Bombworks records and Nordic Mission. I hope they make it easy to buy because none of their other albums are and it's frustrating!

if only I lived in Europe/Halloween

Even if only to see Antestor and several metalfests! Arg! Instead I'm across the ocean. So apparently Antestor are gonna play in the Netherlands Nov.3rd and then Germany in Blast of Eternity Nov.10th. I need to find out more about this Blast of Eternity thing. Looks like a Christian metal fest?? I dunno, I'll find out and post more later. Could be good for finding new bands to listen to.

I know I'm not really supposed to but I figure small amounts of Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir are ok to ring in the Halloween season which is my favorite holiday. Unfortunately I'm used to getting smashed and crazy high every Halloween at costume parties, so being sober now I was getting depressed about no more partying. I managed to speak up at my Marijuana Anonymous meeting about it and they said there's a sober Halloween party this weekend organized by Narcotics Anonymous. Wow that will be a different experience! So I'll be a pirate and my bf will be Jesus. He really looks like the stereotypical Jesus with his long hair down. Hopefully a friend or two of mine can come along too though I'm not sure who would willingly forgo intoxication if they're not addicts on Halloween weekend. Want to know what happened last year at Halloween? I went to a high school friend's party at his appartment, met some new people, including my future bf, drank and smoked up so much that I had to go to the bathroom to snort some lines of blow to counteract everything I took because the room was spinning so fast, but I took too much of everything and didn't have enough blow to counteract it all so when someone opened the door to the bathroom, I was leaning on it and fell to the floor because I couldn't stand on my own. I got dragged to a couch where I thought I was gonna die it felt so horrible to be too drunk and high at the same time. I kept calling for an ambulance but nobody could hear me over the music. Eventually I felt better then partied some more and chatted with my future bf again. Crazy, I never want to be that intoxicated ever again. Then, on actual Halloween day, I went trick-or-treating with a friend. Her costume covered her face and I look really young for my age so we got away with being way too old to trick-or-treat but before we went out, we smoked up, took magic mushrooms and I had a few lines of blow. The decorations of the houses looked really pretty then! But yikes, it was always overkill for me. I can't believe how many drugs I would mix on a daily basis.

New Antestor album!!!

They announced it on facebook, their new album is coming out really soon and it's called Omen!! They also released a teaser of some of the songs but it's so short it's hard to tell really how it will be like. I'm just excited they're still making new albums and will try to buy it asap!
About Antestor tabs, as I've just mentioned I've been really busy with just life, so it'll be a while till I release any new tabs. Meanwhile, enjoy the ones I've got and if the links don't work, tell me. I'm too lazy for now to see for myself.

Via Dolorosa tab finished!

I finally finished my fourth Antestor tab as usual in guitarpro and pdf format! There are 2 tracks since there's 2 guitars playing but I put most of the parts in the 1st track just to keep it simple for reading and playing. I also tabbed the little keyboard part in the middle-ish just for fun. As usual Antestor transforms simple chord progressions and melodies into haunting emotions. I think I'll tab As I Die next since it was requested before and it's such a great song. And to keep reiterating, I will eventually tab the whole album. I'm getting there slowly but surely!

starting again on Via Dolorosa tab

This tab seriously won't take too long in itself but I haven't been working on it at all. Been too busy trying to stay sane and sober but I will have more time soon since my daily treatment will end either this week or next. I still intend to tab the whole album in its awesomeness.

starting Via Dolorosa tab

This is just to let you know I'm starting the tab for Via Dolorosa. It sounds like it won't take too long for me to do. It's parts are generally repetitive and there aren't any insane, time-consuming solos. Still a good song of course. If you just want a help in the right direction to figure it out yourself, it starts with Dm, then Bb to C#. That's all I've got for now.

Old Times Cruelty tab finished!

Wow I finished alot faster than I thought I would have. I guess I just love the song so much I neglected to realize alot of the guitar parts are somewhat repetitive and there's no time-consuming crazy fast solo to tab either. I would say this song is pretty easy to play as far as metal songs go. There's just alot of tremolo picking as usual. I split the song into two guitar tracks and threw in a few piano notes in one of them in case you want to play the part but can't play piano. As always, if the links don't work, just let me know and I can reupload.
Enjoy Antestor's awesome songwriting!

Next up is Via Dolorosa. I still intend to tab everything on The Forsaken album so I'm just going down the track list. And I honestly don't know how long it will take since my life seems to be in constant upheaval but it will get done eventually.

calmer days

The past month or so has been a tad more peaceful and I'm so thankful for that. I can see that I've gotten past the need for hospitalizations for at least the near future, praise God. My grandparents went back home and my brother is in Korea for the whole summer so its been pretty quiet. I try to keep myself a little busy with simple little errands here and there. I also have to take care of all the gardens and lawn-mowing so that's been a learning experience. It's a real quiet, suburban life I'm living, sort of, except when my bad decision-making partly due to my BPD and depression get in the way. Of course, this frustrates my dad and we've had another bad fight but I only moderately felt like running away and didn't act on it which is a good sign. I've reverted to smoking everyday but I stopped the cigarettes and I still don't do it as much as I used to. I unfortunately do like to have the occasional harder drug. And one extremely hot, humid day my friends and I went to a bar that had no air-conditioning. I hadn't seen them in a long time so I was in a partying mood and probably had one too many beers and by the time we left I was puking and became completely paralyzed. I ended up in a hospital overnight. I was so shocked. What I realize now is that it was partly because anti-psychotic drugs can make you more sensitive to heat and they were popping them into my mouth like candy at the psych ward. No wonder the hot days this summer seemed alot more unbearable than the years before. But also, I do stupid things sometimes. Like still having a crush on my ex who's legally criminally insane, schizophrenic, loves drugs and stealing from stores, has violent urges (thankfully he gets an injection once a month that helps with that) and pollutes and spits all the time. What the hell is wrong with me?! I can't seem to uncrush and I don't understand it at all. It's soooo frustrating! The only good things about him is that he's cute, goofily funny and likes to read. That's it. Anyway, all I can do is avoid him now that I finally got some stuff back that I lent him and another guy at the ward. His craziness never ceases to amaze me. Example:

Me: Why are you staring at those two guys walking by? (One had a shaved head)
Crazy One: I'm admiring the shape of their skulls.
Me: Huh? Why? What do you mean?
CO: I wish there was a way I could remove their brains and arteries and all the other stuff in their heads, take the skulls out and reconnect everything else back together and still be alive. And then clean, polish and keep the skulls for myself.
Me: That's what you were really thinking about just now?
CO: Yup.
Me: You're so crazy.
CO: Hmm, I've been getting that alot lately.

Anyhow, all this to say I'm not exactly living the perfect suburban life (not that I want to) but definitely most days are relatively peaceful. Just looking forward to going back to school and seeing friends. And playing with Frank, the best cat in the world.

Still working on the Old Times Cruelty tab but I've been slowed down by the heat and broken air-conditioning. I'm almost done the pretty introduction but it's taking me longer because it's two different parts so I've got two tracks going.

Isn't it so cool how her stripes turn into spots?

And this is why she's the awesomest cat ever. She'll enjoy a bellyrub even from a complete stranger like this person she only just met. So cute!!

still working on tabs

Just a note:
I'm still working on the tab for Old Times Cruelty by Antestor and the goal is to eventually tab the whole album.

finally done Rites of Death tab!

Woohoo I'm finally finished the tab! And so I share my hard work with the world right here. I'm especially proud of the solo. I'm 99.9% sure I got all the notes there. Happy dance for me!
Anyways, this is a fun song to play and I know it looks kind of scary with so many 32nd notes but I'm pretty sure you can just cheat and not play all of those chords, distortion being so forgiving and all. But it is good exercise for your strumming hand that's for sure. As usual I kind of put two guitar parts together since I like to be able to play the song by myself (not enough musician friends). But everything for the rhythm guitar is still there, it just repeats during the solo which you can hear for yourself in the song so I didn't bother putting it in another track.
Enjoy, and tell me how it goes if you dare.

Old Times Cruelty next!

rites of death tab note

I haven't forgotten that I said I would tab a whole bunch of Antestor's songs since there doesn't seem to be any online. Although I started the tab for Rites of Death in July, I sort of forgot about it in the storm of dramatic-ness that has been my life recently. I'm nearly finished now and I have to say, it always sounds like they use weird chords that would be tricky to figure out but then I find they are sometimes just simple bar chords played in an unusual pattern or something. They're so good at using simple parts and making them sound beautiful and melodramatic.

Rites of Death tab planned

I almost forgot my project to do more Antestor tabs! the next one will be Rites of Death. It's one of my favorites. It's one of the catchiest black metal songs which sort of sounds like an oxymoron somehow...

Med Hevede Sverd Antestor tab finished!

I just finished the tab for this awesome song and more will follow for Antestor. As usual I have it in gp5 format and pdf so it's available to everyone! I'm pretty sure there are two guitar parts but I just melded them into one playable track plus some piano when there is no guitar part. The pinch harmonics in the solo sound a little wonky but if you listen to the actual song and follow with the notation it will make more sense.
I had fun tabbing this song. It's simple but catchy with time changes and just challenging enough for my level.

Antestor tabs planned

So a quick Google search has shown me that there aren't very many Antestor tabs out there which is a darn shame! So I will attempt to remedy this, starting with my favorite songs from them: everything from The Forsaken, Jesus Jesus Ver Du Ha Meg (including the crazy solo), Mercy Lord, Demonic Seduction, Searching, Inmost Fear and there's probably more but I can't think of them right off the top of my head right now. It'll be a big project but fun!
I think I will start with Med Hevede Sverd!
Meanwhile I'm slowly trying to learn Towards Dead End by Children of Bodom but I'm not used to scales and arpeggios so it's frustratingly tricky... Learning my own tabs of Kalmah has been easier which is awesome because my speed is improving!
ps: If anyone who plays guitar is reading this, please do not hesitate to request tabs. Especially if they are for Christian metal bands obviously :)

Finally some Christian metal I really like

One thing that has made me really happy these days is that I finally really like some Christian metal! It took me a while to weed through all that metalcore/screamo junk mostly coming from the US and I had to listen to some albums over again for them to grow on me.
But the ultimate best band that I love now is Antestor. They are unblack/white metal and they kick the asses (musically-speaking) of other popular black metal groups like Dimmu Borgir who I thought were the best of the genre before. They've got the ear-splitting combo of fast riffs, growling and blast beats that I love and they've also got beautiful, lamenting keyboard and acoustic guitar parts with the occasional female soprano voice which makes the whole musical package awesome. The lyrics are unusual for Christian bands generally in that they deal with very dark, depressing subject matter but they maintain a Christian perspective through it all.
Plus, they make me laugh with their over-the-top visual theatrics (they're as bad/funny as their secular counterparts) which is an entertaining bonus.

I guess they're pretending to be ancient priests??
Haha I just realized the one on the left looks just like a traditional Korean ghost!

This is how they look at every concert they play. I wish I could see them live!

I just really like this picture

The next Christian metal band I like is Becoming the Archetype. At first I wasn't sure about them because their sound has a tinge of metalcore occasionally but overall, they are definitely death metal which I like. The singer sounds like the guy from lamb of god which is good (and bad since this made me think at first that they were an inferior copycat version) and the guitar parts are simple, yet creative, catchy and heavy. They also have small parts that are slower and acoustic which is a nice brief break from the usual constant sonic barrage.

I've also given Extol a second chance. At first I thought they were an inferior version of Opeth but that's not quite true after listening to Undeceived a few more times. They've got a good heaviness going with progressive beats but I just got thrown off a bit by the occasional violin they had playing in some songs. I think generally orchestras or whole sections of orchestral instruments are better than individual ones for metal (unless it's folk metal).
